For decades, fixing a failing sewer line meant digging up the yard, by digging a trench from the foundation to the street, through whatever landscaping, hardscape, or driveway happened to be in the way. In Cincinnati’s established neighborhoods, where mature trees, brick driveways, and decades-old landscaping are part of what makes a property worth what it’s worth, that kind of excavation carries a cost well beyond the plumbing repair itself.
Trenchless sewer repair changes that. Using cured-in-place pipe lining or pipe bursting, Arlinghaus repairs and replaces sewer lines throughout Cincinnati and Hamilton, Butler, and Clermont Counties without digging a full trench, preserving the yard while restoring the line to full function with a repair rated to last 50 years or more. With 7,000+ reviews and a 4.9-star rating and Best in Cincinnati recognition, Cincinnati homeowners trust us with their sewer line services. And when traditional excavation is genuinely the better call, we’ll say so.

A sewer camera inspection is the right first step. Trenchless or traditional repair decisions should follow what the camera actually shows.

Every trenchless repair starts with a camera inspection of the full lateral, confirming the pipe’s condition, identifying the failure points, and determining whether trenchless is appropriate and which method fits. Without that inspection, any method recommendation is a guess. With it, the repair decision is based on what’s actually in the ground.
Once the right method is confirmed, the process follows a consistent sequence:
The result is a fully repaired sewer line accessed through two small openings, with the yard, driveway, and landscaping in between left intact.

Clay tile and cast iron sewer laterals, common in Cincinnati homes built before 1960, respond well to trenchless repair when camera inspection confirms the pipe retains enough structural integrity. The existing pipe becomes the mold for the new liner, and the result handles flow more efficiently than the original aging pipe did in its final years.
What complicates the picture in Cincinnati is the combination of hard water and time. Greater Cincinnati Water Works delivers water at an average hardness of 126 mg/L (7 grains per gallon) from the Richard Miller Treatment Plant that supplies approximately 88% of the city’s drinking water. Inside aging clay tile and cast iron laterals, that mineral content accelerates internal corrosion and scale buildup, narrowing the pipe and weakening its structure over decades. A pipe that’s heavily corroded along its full length or has multiple collapsed sections may be a better candidate for pipe bursting or traditional replacement than lining. Camera inspection tells you which situation you’re actually in.
In neighborhoods like Mariemont, Indian Hill, Montgomery, and Blue Ash, trenchless repairs yard-preservation advantage is particularly meaningful; mature landscaping, established trees, and brick or stamped concrete driveways represent real property value worth protecting.
Cured-in-Place Pipe Lining (CIPP)
A flexible liner saturated with epoxy resin is inserted into the existing pipe through a cleanout access point, inflated against the interior walls, and cured in place, typically two to four hours. The result is a seamless, jointless new pipe formed inside the existing one, rated for 50 years or more of service life. CIPP works best on pipes that are cracked, corroded, or root-intruded but retain enough structural shape to serve as a mold. It’s not appropriate for fully collapsed sections or pipes with severe joint offsets that prevent liner insertion.
Pipe Bursting
A bursting head is pulled through the existing pipe, fracturing the old pipe outward while simultaneously pulling a new high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe into the same path. Pipe bursting is the better method when structural failure is more significant. That could mean multiple collapsed sections, severe joint separation, or full-length deterioration that a liner can’t adequately address. Like CIPP, it’s rated for 50+ years. Pipe bursting requires enough soil clearance for the old material to fracture and displace outward: a pre-job assessment confirms feasibility before any commitment is made.

Trenchless sewer line replacement starts at $9,900+ – no digging required, and every job includes a 10-year part and labor warranty. A few additional factors affect where the final cost lands:
Arlinghaus provides upfront pricing after camera inspection – full cost and method confirmed before any work begins. For homeowners weighing the investment, financing through Synchrony is available with payments starting as low as $133 per month.
If your sewer line needs attention, trenchless repair may get it done without tearing up what you’ve built around it. Call Arlinghaus to schedule a camera inspection anywhere across Cincinnati and Hamilton County, same-day service available.
