EV Charger Installation
in Cincinnati, OH

Home » Cincinnati » Cincinnati Electrical » EV Chargers

A car putting on fuel

Electric vehicles are no longer a niche purchase. Ohio now has over 126,000 EVs registered statewide, with EVs making up 5% of new vehicle registrations as of late 2025, and Cincinnati is one of the state’s priority corridors for expanded charging infrastructure. The city has required EV chargers in publicly funded parking garages since 2017, and the number of EVs on Hamilton County roads keeps climbing.

But public charging is for when you’re away from home. The majority of EV charging happens in the driveway or garage overnight and a standard 120V household outlet gets you only 3 to 5 miles of range per hour. For most Cincinnati households, that means plugging in every night and still not starting the day full. A Level 2 home charger on a dedicated 240V circuit changes that entirely, adding 20 to 30 miles of range per hour. It’s less about convenience and more about making EV ownership actually work day to day.

Arlinghaus installs Level 2 home EV chargers throughout Cincinnati and Hamilton, Butler, and Clermont Counties for any EV brand, not just one. Every installation starts with a panel evaluation to make sure your home’s electrical system can support the added load before anything gets wired. With 7,000+ reviews and a 4.9-star rating and Best in Cincinnati recognition, Cincinnati homeowners trust us with this work – and our Happy House Seal of Approval guarantee backs every job.

Benefits of a Home EV Charging Station

  • Start every day with a full charge – no managing around public station availability or stopping mid-week to top off
  • 20–30 miles of range added per hour – a standard overnight window fully charges most EVs for most commutes
  • Lower cost per mile than public charging – home electricity rates run consistently lower than public charging station rates, especially with off-peak pricing from your utility
  • No more planning overhead – home charging eliminates the mental load of tracking charge levels against your day’s driving
  • A feature home buyers notice – a properly installed Level 2 charger is an increasingly valued addition for buyers who drive an EV or plan to

Our service tech was knowledgeable and took the time to show us what was going on with our AC unit. I was kept up to date with texts throughout the process before he arrived. He took the time to ask if we had any questions. Would highly recommend Arlinghaus!
Arlinghaus was great to get someone to my home immediately as I was dealing with a burst pipe. Mike Thomas was so kind and professional, and thorough in his work. The rates were very reasonable for the wonderful service provided. I certainly will be calling them back if I have any future issues (though I hope I don't!)
I contacted Arlinghaus to have our hot water heater replaced and water softener system installed. The two techs that came out and worked on our project, Derek Mullins and Claude Jones, were excellent! Super nice guys, kept us informed, and did a fantastic job on our house. I appreciate their professional manner and knowledge on this job and I would recommend them for future work. Thank you guys for restoring the hot water in our house and for installing our new water softener, we are so happy for these upgrades!!

Level 1 vs. Level 2 EV Chargers: What's the Difference?

Level 1 (120V): Plugs into a standard household outlet. No installation required, but adds only 3–5 miles of range per hour. Fine for PHEVs or very short daily drives, but impractical for most full EV ownership.

Level 2 (240V): Requires a dedicated 240V circuit and a hardwired or plug-in charger unit. Adds 20–30 miles of range per hour depending on the charger’s amperage and the vehicle’s onboard charger. The standard choice for full EV owners and the only one worth installing for most households.

Arlinghaus installs Level 2 chargers. If you have questions about amperage, connector type, or smart charging features, your technician will walk you through the options during the initial visit.

Does Your Cincinnati Home's Panel Need an Upgrade?

A Level 2 EV charger draws 30–50 amps of dedicated capacity. That’s a meaningful addition to a home’s electrical load. Whether your panel can handle that depends on its age, current capacity, and how much headroom remains after accounting for existing circuits.

Cincinnati’s median home was built in 1951, and roughly 40.8% of homes predate 1940. In neighborhoods like Northside, Walnut Hills, Clifton, and Hyde Park, 100-amp or lower service panels are still common and a panel already running close to capacity may have little room available for a Level 2 charger without an upgrade first.

Signs your panel may need evaluation before installation:

  • A 100-amp or lower service panel
  • Breakers that trip regularly under normal household load
  • A fuse box rather than a modern breaker panel
  • An older panel with no obvious available capacity

Arlinghaus evaluates the panel as the first step of every EV charger installation. If an upgrade is needed, we tell you upfront and handle it as part of the same project.

What Does EV Charger Installation Cost in Cincinnati?

The cost of a Level 2 home charger installation varies based on several factors specific to your home:

  • Panel capacity: If the panel needs an upgrade before the charger can be installed, that adds meaningfully to the overall scope and cost.
  • Wiring distance: The further the 240V circuit needs to run from the panel to the charger location, the more material and labor the job requires.
  • Charger unit: Equipment costs vary by brand, amperage rating, and features like smart charging capability.
  • Permit requirements: EV charger installation in Cincinnati requires a permit through the City of Cincinnati Department of Buildings & Inspections; permit fees are included in the upfront price.

For straightforward installations, the investment is manageable. For projects that include a panel upgrade or a longer wiring run, the total can climb – and financing through Synchrony is worth asking your technician about before the job begins. Arlinghaus provides upfront pricing after the panel evaluation so the full cost is confirmed before any work starts.

Our EV Charger Installation Process

  • Panel evaluation: We assess your panel’s age, capacity, and available headroom before recommending a charger or quoting installation scope
  • Charger selection: We help you choose a unit appropriate for your vehicle, your panel’s capacity, and your garage or outdoor location
  • Permit coordination: EV charger installation requires a permit through the City of Cincinnati Department of Buildings & Inspections, we handle filing and inspections as part of the job
  • Licensed installation: The 240V circuit and charger are installed by a licensed electrician to current National Electrical Code standards
  • Testing and handoff: The charger is tested before the visit is complete and we walk you through operation before we leave

We Install Chargers for Any EV and Not Just One Brand

Some EV charger installers specialize in a single vehicle manufacturer’s proprietary hardware. Arlinghaus installs Level 2 home chargers compatible with any EV: Tesla, Ford, Chevrolet, Rivian, Hyundai, BMW, and others. Whether your household has one EV today or plans to add a second, we install the right charger for your vehicle and your home’s electrical setup without locking you into one brand’s ecosystem.

Why Choose Arlinghaus for EV Charger Installation in Cincinnati

  • Any EV brand, not just one: Tesla, Ford, Chevrolet, Rivian, Hyundai, BMW, and others, with no proprietary hardware requirements, no brand restrictions.
  • Panel evaluation is step one, every time: A Level 2 charger draws 30–50 amps of dedicated capacity, and Cincinnati’s older housing stock means plenty of panels need attention before installation can happen safely. We assess yours before quoting anything.
  • Permit coordination handled for you: EV charger installation requires a permit through the City of Cincinnati Department of Buildings & Inspections. We file, schedule inspections, and close the permit as part of every job.
  • Financing available: For projects that include a panel upgrade, financing options make the upfront cost more manageable, ask your technician for details.
  • 4.9 stars, 7,000+ reviews: More verified reviews than any electrical contractor in our service area, covering all of Hamilton County.
  • Best in Cincinnati recognition: Awarded for consistent work across the city’s neighborhoods.
  • Upfront pricing: Full cost confirmed after the panel evaluation, before any work begins.
  • Happy House Seal of Approval: Every installation is backed by our service guarantee.
